How long do flexible badges last?

Flexible badges are designed for everyday use, but because they’re made from layered plastic materials, their lifespan is shorter than traditional metal badges. With daily duty wear, most flexible badges last around 1–2 years before needing replacement.

Actual lifespan will vary based on how and where the badge is worn, how often it’s exposed to abrasion (vest straps, zippers, seat belts, gear), and how it’s stored when not in use.

A few helpful notes:

  • Flexible badges cannot be refurbished. Once they show wear, they must be replaced.

  • Matte finishes tend to wear better because they are color-through, meaning the color extends through the material rather than being applied only on the surface.

  • Minimize the number of times you remove the badge from your uniform. Repeated removal and reattachment accelerates edge wear and stress on the badge.

  • When removal is necessary, do it carefully. Pull gently, use even pressure, and take extra care with badges that have thin design elements or cutouts.

  • These steps will help maximize the time your flexible badge looks sharp and performs at its best.
