Custom Credential Case Project: Hartsville Police Department’s Distinctive ID Solution

A Unique Badge, A Purpose-Built Case

The Hartsville Police Department in South Carolina had a specific goal in mind: a lightweight leather case to hold two standard-sized ID cards, with a distinctive look that reflected the department’s identity. They wanted something clean and functional, but also professional and symbolic.

At the center of their vision was a gold-plated brass mini-badge, shaped like a star set inside a circle, with detailed cutouts, patriotic flags, a South Carolina state seal, and their department name. The star points extended beyond the circle’s edge, requiring a highly precise fit into the cover of the leather case. Just below the badge, they wanted their agency name—Hartsville Police Department—stamped in gold foil for a clean finishing touch.

What They Needed

Hartsville PD came to us with a clear concept and the artwork to match. They needed a case to carry two ID cards measuring 2¾ inches by 4½ inches—slightly larger than standard credit cards—so the sizing had to be just right. They didn’t want to carry a full-sized badge, but they still wanted the badge design to be part of the case.

They also specified that the mini-badge should be about 2 inches in diameter, large enough to be eye-catching but small enough to keep the case slim and easy to carry. We helped them fine-tune the layout so everything worked together seamlessly.

How We Delivered

The mini-badge was the centerpiece. With its star-in-circle shape, sharp points, and detailed graphics, embedding it into the leather case required specialized tooling and a case cutout shaped to match each point and curve. That level of precision isn’t something you’ll find in most off-the-shelf solutions, but we were able to make it happen.

The gold foil stamp underneath the badge added a final layer of polish, clearly stating the department’s name without overpowering the badge itself.

The case itself was crafted from genuine leather, built to carry two ID cards securely, with a layout that’s clean, professional, and easy to use.
